PROLOGUE
There has never been an explanation of why some days were so very ordinary while others, extraordinary. Today, without giving it any thought or planning, was going to be extraordinary. Extraordinary for Arthur and everyone he knew. For Arthur lived in the tiny village of Stones End (New England) where life moved slowly, gossip traveled fast, and it was simply impossible to keep deep, dark secrets hidden forever. And Arthur harbored a deep, dark secret…for the past 40 years.
As each decade passed, Arthur was lulled further and further down the proverbial rabbit hole… if I never speak of it, no one will know. But this was Stones End, after all, so he never really stood a chance. You see, as fate would have it, his friends were a lot better at uncovering deep, dark secrets than Arthur was good at keeping them hidden.
